Building Better Starts from the Ground Up

Dwellings flooring brings together thoughtful design, lasting performance, and more efficient manufacturing practices for the spaces we build and the people who live in them. From PureColor® carpet to PureGrain® hard surface flooring, our approach to sustainability starts with how our products are made and extends to how they perform over time.

Green Smart represents our commitment to making flooring more efficiently and responsibly. By reducing energy and water use, minimizing waste, and supporting renewable energy and carbon offset projects, we’re working to reduce our environmental impact while creating flooring designed for lasting performance.

Efficiency Built Into the Process

How flooring is made matters. Our vertically integrated manufacturing process is designed to reduce production travel, energy use, water consumption, and waste while helping us maintain consistent quality and efficiently serve our customers.

Whether you’re selecting flooring for a single home or specifying products across an entire project, understanding how flooring is made and independently evaluated can help you make more informed choices for the spaces you create.

Current Initiatives

Four Walls Process

Vertical integration keeps key manufacturing processes under one roof, helping reduce energy use, production travel, and waste.

Manufacturing Efficiency

Raw materials enter one door and finished flooring exits another, traveling approximately 2.5 miles during production compared with an industry average of 250 miles.

PureColor® technology

Our solution-dyed carpet manufacturing process uses less water and energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared with traditional dye methods.

PureGrain® technology

Bio-based and recycled materials, along with on-site post-industrial LVT recycling, help reduce the environmental impact of our High-Def™ hard surface flooring.

Third-Party Auditing

Independent certification and auditing organizations help verify the accuracy, credibility, and transparency of our sustainability data.

Engineered for Longevity

Durability is part of sustainability. Our flooring is designed for lasting performance, helping reduce premature replacement and long-term material consumption.

The PureColor & PureGrain Journey

PureColor® carpet is made in Dalton, Georgia, at our vertically integrated manufacturing facility, where we manage the process from raw materials through finished flooring. Keeping production under one roof helps us maintain consistent quality and color while reducing the distance materials travel during manufacturing.

Certifications That Benefit You

Independent certifications and third-party assessments provide greater transparency into the materials, emissions, and environmental impacts of our flooring. These programs help builders, designers, contractors, and homeowners make more informed product decisions with credible, verified information.

Carpet Rug Institute (CRI)

Our carpet products are certified through the Carpet and Rug Institute’s Green Label Plus program, which identifies carpet products tested for very low VOC emissions. Look for the Green Label Plus logo on Dwellings carpet samples.

Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)

Environmental Product Declarations provide third-party verified information about a product’s environmental impacts based on Life Cycle Assessment data, helping provide greater transparency throughout the product lifecycle.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

Life Cycle Assessments evaluate the environmental impacts of PureColor® carpet across its lifecycle—from raw materials and manufacturing through transportation, use, and end-of-life. This data helps identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact and provides transparent, science-based product information.

FloorScore

FloorScore® is a third-party certification for hard surface flooring and adhesives that meet established indoor air quality requirements. Certified products are tested for VOC emissions and meet criteria recognized by a range of healthy building programs.

GREENGUARD

GREENGUARD certification identifies products tested to meet stringent standards for low chemical emissions. Certified PureColor® carpet products can help support healthier indoor air quality in the spaces where people live, work, and gather.

Focused on What’s Next

Sustainability is an ongoing effort. We continue to evaluate the environmental impact of our products and manufacturing processes while exploring opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and support reputable renewable energy and carbon offset projects. Through our Green Smart initiative, we’re committed to making measurable progress as our products and processes continue to evolve.
